Mitral valve is a part of the heart which is located in the left region. It is actually a link that connects the atrium and ventricle. For people with normal body conditions, this valve is a responsible link for controlling blood rotation in different heart chambers. However the problem arises when a valve balloons out, which is called prolapse syndrome condition in the mitral valve. The result of this medical condition is the valves failing to close completely and also resulting in a slight blood leak. Women are more prone to developing this syndrome than men.

Causes:

In 40% percent people the major cause for the mitral valve prolapsed syndrome is dysautonomia. It is a medical condition of imbalance in the functioning of the nervous system. Some of the parts of the nervous system may act independently, which causes an imbalance. It is similar to a condition of involuntary reactions in habitual bodily functions like breathing and heartbeats.. No other causes for mitral valve prolapsed syndrome are yet discovered.

Symptoms:

Asymptomatic feeling is the first symptom people develop when suffering from mitral valve prolapsed. This condition is hard to discover and in most people it is diagnosed accidently, mainly during routine medical examinations. One of the major symptoms of mitral valve includes rapid heartbeat. Most patients complain about sudden increase in heartbeat with a strong blood force. The mitral valve prolapsed patients also feel a stabbing sensation in the chest or like they have been shot in the chest. The patients can feel mild pain that lasts for a couple of hours or even more depending on the severity of the problem.

One of the most noticeable symptoms of this medical condition includes major changes in muscle tone. The chest area feels softer and the structure of the bones also changes due to this softening.

Treatment:

In most of the patients discovered till now, only a few suffered any major losses. Most of the others have been reported to survive till old age and have enjoyed a normal life. No lifestyle changes are required when it comes to mitral valve prolapsed. It is classified as one of the harmless deviations in a normal human life which may or may not occur.

In severe cases, the mitral valve prolapsed directly requires surgery in the heart which is extremely risky. In fact, the probability of a person surviving is greater without an operation than with. Therefore most people suppress this problem with some pain relief and heart-friendly medicines. There are also drugs available, including antibiotics which are recommended for consumption before surgery. Problems in life:

People suffering from mitral valve prolapsed undergo some slight problems in life. Recurring shortness of breath is one of the major ones. This medical condition also lowers the stamina and sometimes there is swelling in the leg region as well. Rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath can make a person feel dizzy if suffering from mitral valve prolapse. Patients may pass out or get a panic or anxiety attack as well. Numbness in the legs, hands and other body areas can also occur in this syndrome.
